Alle Facetten des Projektes sind vertreten. Die eigentliche Ausstellung “Sehen müßte man können, aber wir haben nur lesen gelernt” ist reich bebildert und zeigt die Serie der großformatigen “Überläufer” im Dachbereich der städtischen Galerie Halle (Westfalen) hängend.

Das anschließende Reiseprojekt “Kunst is the answer” wird ebenfalls durch Videostills und Fotos sowie begleitender Texte angeschlossen.

Den Abschluß bildet die Kunstkommunikation “Dürer I statt Harz IV“, die Kreative und Institutionen an einen Tisch kommen ließ, um sich in Krisenzeiten besser zu vernetzen und Strategien für gemeinsame Projekte zu entwicklen.

Die Kunstagentur H0ffmann begleitete das Projekt des Künstlers Wolfgang Meluhn und führte gemeinsam mit ihm auf der Kunstblogseite: www.kunstfreunde-blog.de unter dem Label “Kunst is the answer” einen kulturpolitischen Dialog über die Kunst heute.

Als Sponsor und dritten Projektpartner konnte der Energieversorger “Strasserauf” für die Realisierung des Katalogprojekts gewonnen werden. Der Katalog ist käuflich in der Galerie der Kunstagentur Hoffmann zu erwerben.

Die Inhaberin und Kunsthistorikerin Christiane Hoffmann hielt einen Lichtbildervortrag zum Thema Frida Kahlo. Das Leben und Werk dieser legendären, mexikanischen Malerin zieht bis heute Millionen von Kunstfans in ihren Bann.

Alle Plätze waren in der Galerie Hoffmann besetzt und nach dem Vortrag nutzen die Zuhörerinnen und Zuhörer die Gelegenheit sich noch untereinander und mit der Referentin über die Kunst Frida Kahlos zu unterhalten. Die Premierengäste wurden von der Gastgeberin noch auf ein Glas Prosecco eingeladen, so dass ein spannender und kunstvoller Abend einen runden Abschluß bekam.

Der Lichtbildervortrag ist der Auftakt einer kunsthistorischen Reihe der modernen Kunst. Der nächste Vortrag findet am 22. Juni 2010 um 19.30 Uhr zum Thema “Emil Nolde – Magier der Farbe” statt.

Auch die zeichnerische Dokumentation des zwei-Tages-Kunst-Events von Beate Freier-Bongaertz ist mit ausgestellt, so dass jetzt für alle die es verpaßt haben Zeit ist, sich von der Qualität und den Ergebnissen zu überzeugen.
Zu dem Event erscheint zugleich ein Katalog, der auch die einzelnen Runden mit aufführt und so das Event umfassend dokumentiert.

Ihr dramatisches Leben und die schicksalhafte Begegnung mit ihrem cogenialen Partner Diego Rivera, sind nur ein Highlight der Biografie Frida Kahlos. Der Vortrag nimmt Bezug auf die große Retrospektive Frida Kahlos im Martin-Gropius-Bau Berlin, die bis zum 9. August 2010 zu sehen ist.

Der Vortrag findet am Dienstag, 11. Mai 2010, ab 19:30 in der Galerie Kunstagentur Hoffmann, Lange Straße 50, 33378 Rheda-Wiedenbrück, OT Wiedenbrück, statt. Parkplätze sind kostenlos entlang der Langen Straße zu finden. Einlass ab 19.00 Uhr. Eintritt 5 €. Eine Abendkasse ist eingerichtet.

Eine Auswahl aus den 120 Ölgemälden aus denen das Gesamtprojekt besteht ist in der Ausstellung Brit Pic(k) in der Galerie der Kunstagentur Hoffmann noch bis zum 30. Mai 2010 zu sehen.

Artist statement Joseph Cartwright

I would equate my current practice to ideas around an expanded concept of what drawing can be. The works selected for the exhibition are from two ongoing series. One series bring together a collection of images of clouds that are sourced from various meaningful moments in my life, their grouping creating a dialogue between their narratives, materials and process. The second series relies heavily on the introduction of chance into the realization of the artwork. Found postcard images sourced from years of rummaging around in flea markets and charity shops are collected and categorised. By cutting away the surface of the postcards and so erasing the context of the original image they are left with isolated incidents, fragments of images which create new meanings.

Artist Statement

Roger Westoby has been making Art over a period of four decades. His approach is rooted in figuration, and there is a strong reference to the human form. Paintings are frequently re-worked over long periods, and figurative representation often moves into an area of abstraction.

This has given greater freedom to the work both in form and colour. Roger is primarily a colourist, with a strong sense of structure and form. He has a capable grasp and understanding of architecture, and living and working mainly in cities has strengthened this. His traveling has informed his understanding of the world and the inspiration which is on offer. He continues to work from a variety of sources, drawings, photographs, multimedia collections, completing work in the East London studio, moving between the various approaches he has embraced over the years.

Artist Statement

For the last three years architecture has been a constant in my work, initially buildings constructed during 1940 along the North Norfolk Coast as defences against the then perceived threat of invasion. The pillboxes and bunkers that still straddle Britain remain as a reminder of a former state of physical/geographical vulnerability. However, my interest as a painter is not in what they represent historically, but more in what meanings we might apply to them now, as visual objects – symbols of a faltering Modernist age – buildings which, over the intervening years, have become integral to an understanding and experience of the late 20th and now 21st century English landscape, in all its physical and ideological manifestations. These structures are arguably the first real symbols of an enforced Brutalism later commandeered by Lasdun and the Smithsons.

My particular interest in these objects has been stimulated by my move to North Norfolk in 2004. Since then I have developed a series of paintings and drawings, which explore ways of explaining the presence of these buildings that avoids the simplified historical and visual metaphors they could so easily represent. I tend to work and investigate my subject in a manner that is similar in concept to Bernd and Hilla Becher’s photographs of industrial buildings. In the same way that they wish to move away from the sentimental aesthetic of immediate post war visual art, so I aim to find a means of explaining and understanding these buildings that does not rely simply on a set of predetermined factors; criteria that, by it’s nature, imposes certain fixed and symbolic meanings through a set of finite discussions about why and how these structures have evolved.

In the last year I have widened my explorations to incorporate research and visual ideas relating to particular locations in and near to Berlin. The simple connection being, that the buildings I am investigating in North Norfolk would not exist were it not for a series of by now well documented, socio/political circumstances and events centred primarily on that city in the early to mid 20th Century. The two locations of particular interest to me are Alexanderplatz and the Stranbad Wannsee.

How to visually express and therefore give meaning to new and untried visual motifs, which attempt to explain highly complex definitions of a singular experience of a specific place, is the focus of my work.

Am Freitag, den 07.05.2010 ab 18 Uhr ab Sehstation auf dem Marktplatz wird die Kunsthistorikerin Christiane Hoffmann von der Kunstagentur Hoffmann eine Führung zu den alten und neue Kunstwerken und Denkmälern im öffentlichen Raum in Wiedenbrück unternehmen. Im Anschluß kann ebenfalls mit einer Führung die Kunstausstellung “Brit Pic(k)” Malerei und Zeichnung von vier englischen Malern in der Galerie der Kunstagentur Hoffmann besucht werden.

Treffpunkt ist an der Sehstation, der Kostenbeitrag beträgt 5 Euro, eine Anmeldung ist nicht erforderlich.
